Progress comes from engagement, not from setting New Year resolutions
We are coming close to the end of the year and heavy rains of advice are expected. This statement may sound strange I know, but I am referring to the tone of statements we are familiar with and that all carry the same message ,, Set up your New Year resolutions!’’
With this message, you get a whole range of arguments and explanations of why is important to set up resolutions in the New Year and how by doing so you will have an amazing year ahead full of achievements.
All this sounds wonderful isn’t it and seems like a good receipt for creating a life you desire by accomplishing the things important to you.
Although this concept may get you fired up in the first instance, practically has very low chances to come to fruition.
Typically, how this works is you make a long list of things you would like to accomplish which might include: places to see, nurture friendships, spending more time with family, obtaining a pay raise or job promotion and the list can continue. The list you create is pretty long usually and it makes sense why: You want to make sure everything important is captured in here with the belief in mind that this is a guarantee to accomplish them.
January coming, you look at this long list, perhaps start working towards one or two objectives and you freak out!
All you can see on that list is limitless uncertainty.
Unfortunately, the list does not tell you what to do next, what obstacles may encounter on the way and how to move through them. Is just a list and not a navigation map.
Life happens every day and is in the everyday space you work on things important to you. You do that by being actively engaged with your life and take one small step at the time. Although is great to set up objectives and make lists to visualise them the real progress comes from engagement.
You don’t need a New Year Day to start working on things you care about, you really don’t.
You have the opportunity at any given moment to make amends, change the course of your actions and move in the direction you want.
If would like to be more engaged in your daily life and feel content with your choices, please feel free to reach out.
